Thanks to everyone’s generous donations, we have been able to hire more temporary help to work on the card catalog entry project. We are currently entering the solo with band accompaniment category. We have finished entering the solos, duets, trios & quartets for piccolo, flute, oboe, bassoon, clarinet, saxophone, cornet, trumpet, Eb horn, french horn, trombone, baritone, & bass. There is also a separate category for solos and ensembles without band accompaniment.
We are still working on the Concert March category. There have been 520 titles entered so far.
Donations have been coming in since we mailed out our spring newsletter. Thank you to everyone that has contributed. You are allowing us to continue making progress on our online card catalog.
We finished the Patriotic category last month. It has 231 titles in it. We have also finished the Religious category with 170 titles, the Christmas category with 117 titles, and are now entering the Concert March category. A few examples recently entered: “Comandante” by Gus Guentzel, and “Columbus March” by Carl M. Ziehrer arranged by Loren Geiger. We estimate that we are 50% finished entering all the tunes that are currently cataloged. We are working on getting a newsletter out, so watch your mailboxes for it.
We finished the data entry of the Pop music category. There were 2,392 tunes entered.
We made a subcategory in Pop called Concert Pop. This is for concert sized Pop tunes that don’t fit in the Pop music drawers. There are 96 tunes in that category. We are now working on entering music in the Patriotic category. So far, there have been 116 tunes entered. Some examples- Heritage by Roy Ringwald arranged by Hawley Ades and Hail To The Chief arranged by Geo. H. Sanders.
We will be finished entering the Pop music category this week or next. Here are a few tunes that were recently entered: “Who Wouldn’t Be Blue” by Joe Burke and Benny Davis and “Why Couldn’t It Be Poor Little Me?” by Kahn and Jones.
The wonderful response we had to our Step Up the Tempo ASK letter has allowed us to hire two temporary employees to work on the data entry. We also have had a couple more people volunteer to help us sort the music and get it ready for the data entry.
I thought I’d use these web logs as a way to keep our patrons informed on the progress of the data entry into the online card catalog. We have finished the March, Suite and Selection and Concert categories. We are working on the Pop category now and are into the “S'”. The last three entered are “St. Louis Blues” by W. C. Handy, “St. Louis Rag” by Tom Turpin and “Sam, The Old Accordion Man” by Walter Donaldson.
Thank you to everyone that donated to our “Step Up the Tempo” campaign. We have received a little over $4ooo in donations so far!
I also want to thank our volunteers who put in 95 hours in December.
The Chatfield Brass Band presented their annual Christmas Concert on Sunday, Dec. 4th at 4:00 p.m. Our selections included: “Christmas Favorites” (Ployhar), “March of the Toys”, “Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer”, “Noel Francais“, “Jesu Bambino“, “Santa Claus is Coming to Town”, “I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas”. The chorale sang, the flute sextet played “Dance of the Reed Flutes”, and Andrew Lovejoy sang “I Wonder as I Wander”. It was a fun concert and audience members said it was the best concert ever! Thanks to the band for their hard work and wonderful musicianship! We will now take a break until Jan 19th when we will start regular rehearsals for the summer concert series.
The Library sent out ASK letters this Novemberto help us pick up the tempo with our card catalog data entry. Thank you to everyone that has already sent in donations!
